why there is no viable third party

from non sequitur today:

states the reality very well, I think.  And tells me again that a third or even 4th national party is so vitally necessary – along with campaign finance reform.

The time to start a third party is now.  It takes time, organization, and money to get qualified candidates to run for everything from city councils to the presidency.  If a third party is to govern effectively, it needs support from the ground up.  That’s the way conservatives have taken over government, and it obviously works.
